EFFECTIVE FEBRUARY 1, 2008 . . .  Time limit for Newcomer, Special Beginner, and Beginner Solo will be 1:00 - 2:00 minutes.

EFFECTIVE APRIL 1, 2007 . . . Contestants who wish to vie for Advanced/Elite titles at Fall Classic, Mini Nationals, and Summer Nationals must have participated in at least two DMA sanctioned competitions within one year of the national level event in which they wish to participate.  The required contest rule must be met by attending two local, state, or regional competitions.  Attendance at Fall Classic, Mini Nationals or Summer Nationals MAY NOT count as one of the required contests.  In addition to the regular Advanced/Elite titles, this rule will also apply to Miss DMA Halftime/Elite, Miss DMA High School Majorette/Elite, Miss DMA Junior Halftime/Elite, Miss DMA High School Majorette/Elite, Miss Collegiate Halftime, and Miss College Majorette.  Special Beginners through Intermediate are exempt. 

Contestants may be exempt from this rule if they qualify under one of the following exceptions:
1.  Twirler lives 300 miles or more from the nearest DMA sanctioned contest.
2.  Twirler has suffered a serious illness or injury that has kept her/him sidelined for    
     a majority of the twirling year. 

Contestants requesting an exemption under any exception must provide a letter to D.M.A. Headquarters outlining the reason(s) for her/his request.  In cases of serious illness or injury, the contestant must also provide a statement from her/his primary physician providing appropriate information to support the request for exemption.

This rule will be waived for Summer Nationals 2007.


EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2007 . . .  Swimsuit modeling will no longer serve as a competition for the titles Majorette Queen of America and Senior Majorette Queen.  MQOA and SMQ contestants will now model interview outfits instead of swimsuits.  The point value will be the same for the interview outfit modeling as provided for swimsuit competiton, and the same score sheet will be used.  Modeling will be performed to an updated style of music. 



2006 Rule Changes

Pom Girl Song for the 2007 Twirling Year is "Knock on Wood" by Ami Stewart.

There was discussion at the National Judges meeting regarding changes to age divisions.  Age divisions will remain the same until further notice.


EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2005

1.  The contest director may choose any song from the new DMA Marching CD.  This will be played for all Fancy Strutting for that day.  Newcomers, Special Beginners, Beginners, and Intermediates will have a song chosen from number 1-6 on the CD and Advanced and Elite will have a song chosen from numbers 7-12 on the CD.  The contest director will play the introduction several times before starting the Fancy Strut competition.  The same song will be played for all ages in their particular category for that day.

2.    The set up time for Musical and Show Corps has been changed from 1 minute to 3 minutes.  A ".1" per second penalty will start after 3 minutes.  Corps Directors, please read your manual concerning the number and size of your props.

3.   D.M.A. Marching CD is available at D.M.A. Headquarters for $12.00.

HE FOLLOWING CHANGE IS IN EFFECT AS OF FEBRUARY 1, 2004:

Parade Corps and Drum and Baton Corps.
The out of bounds penalty (.1 point per infraction) will pertain only to Marching Units; that is Parade Corps and Drum and Baton Corps.


POM GIRL  2003-2004 MUSIC     "What I Like About You"

The new Pom Girl Music for 2003-2004 is "What I Like About You" by the Romantics. It may be found on "What I Like About You (& Other Romantic Hits)" by the Romantics and can be located on Amazon.com.  For fall contests, either the 2002-2003 or 2003-2004 song may be used.  The new song will go into effect January 1, 2004.


THE FOLLOWING CHANGES ARE IN  EFFECT AS OF FEBRUARY 1, 2003:

Rule #27, National Title Winners
C.   Winners of Fall Classic Advanced/Elite may enter Mini-Nationals and Summer Nationals.  Fall Classic Advanced/Elite title winners may not enter for a title in the same age division on the local or regional level, however, they may enter their state contest.

D.   Winners of the Miss Majorette of the Year Advanced/Elite may compete for Summer Nationals and Fall Classic.  Winners may not enter for a title in the same age division on the local or regional level, however, they may enter their state contest.

E.   Special Beginner, Beginner and Intermediate National title winners may not enter for the same National Title in the same age division.  They may continue to enter the working events in the same age division as long as they remain eligible by trophy count.


Rule #6F - Elite
F-4   Any contestant who wins or has won two Mini-Nationals and/or two Summer National Titles will immediately be considered an Elite contestant.  (This does not apply to wins in the 4-6 age division.  This does not apply to the 7-8 age division unless there were at least three contestants in the age division.)


Rule #2 Membership
A-1   Regular full membership fee is $20.00.

A-2   Post membership is $15.00 per year.  Other information remains the same.

E.    Human props are not permitted.  Aerials and exchanges are permitted.  The language  "All members on the floor must perform the same routine" has been deleted.

Section II.  Baton Group
Baton Teams are division into three categories:
(3-6)  Small Team                 (7-12)  Large Team            (13 & over)  Extra Large Team



THE FOLLOWING CHANGES ARE IN EFFECT AS OF JANUARY 1, 2002:

Trophy County for Individuals

A
Newcomer is one who has never entered a particular event.  You may do so only once.

Special Beginner is allowed two (2) first places in each event.  There must be three (3) in the division for this to count as a win.  If you double enter and win first in the Beginner division, this win will also count towards your Special Beginner wins, providing there were three (3) in your division.  Special Beginner wins do not count towards your Beginner wins.

Beginners are allowed eight (8) first places in each event.  The first places count only when there are three (3) in the division.  If you double enter and win first in Intermediates, with three (3) in your division, this will count towards your Beginner wins.  Wins from other organizations also count in your trophy progression.

Intermediates are allowed 18 first place wins per event.  If you double enter and win in the Advanced division, with three (3) in the division, you must count this as a win towards your Intermediate count.  Wins from other organizations must also be counted.  (EFFECTIVE:  September 1, 2002).

Elites must earn the right to enter the Elite Division.

Queen of the Day
If you win first place in Most Beautiful, you are no longer eligible to enter Special Beginner or Beginner Queen of the Day. If you win first place in Most Beautiful two (2) times, you are no longer eligible to enter Intermediate Queen of the Day.

2001-2002   Pom Girl Music - "Hey Mickey"
The Pom Girl song for 2001-2002 season is "Hey Mickey" by Bewitched.  It can be found on the sound track of the movie "Bring It On."  If you have any problems obtaining the music, contract Bonnie Kupp (717-272-8490).  "Hey Mickey" is required and in effect as of January 1, 2002.


Beginner Teams
A Beginner Team is one which has not won three (3) first places with competition.  A Beginner Team cannot have an advanced or elite twirler on the team.

Teams
Gymnastic Aerials are only permitted with the use of your floor mats.  DMA will not provide mats.  The penalty shall be charged as an illegal move with a five (5) point penalty deduction.  This pertains to both baton and non-baton teams.

New Score Sheets
New score sheets for Pom/Dance lines will be in effect beginning January 1, 2002. 

New score sheets for DMA Halftime will also be in effect beginning January 1, 2002.  Please note:  required 16 High Marching Steps has been added to the score sheet.  Failure to do so will result in a two (2) point penalty.  March steps can be done as 4 at a time, 8 at a time, or 16 steps at one time.  (High march steps are considered as if you were performing basic strut.)

Judges - DMA Halftime
Judges are to mark the march steps on score sheets in the appropriate boxes under march steps.  Judges are to place a plus mark (+) if the contestant performs the march step and a check mark if the contestant does not perform the march step.  Judges are to leave the box blank if they are unsure if the steps were completed.  A TWO (2) POINT PENALTY DEDUCTION WILL BE MADE FOR NOT USING INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC.

Judges Attire
Judges are to wear a red, white, or blue blazer when judging Fall Classic, Mini-Nationals, or Summer Nationals.

Corps
All corps will be judged from above floor level.

Show Routines (Talents)
The time limit for show rountines (talent) has been changed to 1:30 - 2:30 minutes.  This is effective as of January 1, 2002.

National Winners
Due to the length of the Award Ceremonies, it is necessary to limit the length of speeches given by the outgoing National Title Winners.  The time will be limited to 2 to 3 minutes for National Title Winners in any groups 4-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, and Elite 10-12 and 13-15.  Speeches may be memorized or on a cassette (recorded).

Majorette Queen of America and Senior Majorette Queen speeches will be limited to 5 to 7 minutes.
